Black Friday…Or Bust!

Stores are slashing prices all around the United States in preparation for Black Friday. I plan on shopping locally, though, in support of the small businesses and mom and pop stores. Too many times have corporations beaten down local cafes, clothing stores, and arts and crafts shops in marketing monopolies. These greedy scoundrels rent the biggest store fronts in the highest traffic locations to reel in their sales.

Franchises are set up nationwide in an effort to get the most money possible. And the major problem with companies like Walmart and Target is that they shut out their small time rivals. Quaint shops are in peril when compared to big franchise companies, especially during the holiday season. They are in jeopardy of staggering sales during this time, and low customer outcome. Which is why I plan on buying locally this Black Friday.

I love the refreshing feeling of having a unique item that was either handmade or made custom for me. It brings back the sentiment of being filled with the holiday spirit. Everyone of my friends enjoy the hand picked gifts I buy special for them, because it shows genuine feeling. Even big gifts like TVs and video games can be bought locally. It just takes a little bit of searching.

So how about planning early this holiday season and shopping in the neighborhood? Walk around town and keep your eyes open for small shops. Let’s help keep the small businesses running because they have sales, too.

This year I’m heading to a store in Downtown Brooklyn called Nicholas. nicThey specialize in natural products and handmade goods. Every time I walk into this store I am greeted so warmly, and it makes me feel like home. My favorite buys here are the Dragon Fruit Incense Sticks, handmade candles, black soap, and bracelets of all sorts. I recently purchased a leather bracelet that had a scorpion melted into some glass on it. scorpionThis store also sells books, clothes, and other artsy things. If you are in Brooklyn, head down there or otherwise visit this link Shop Nicholas

But wherever you live, remember to shop locally.

Happy shopping, everyone!

Christmas Cheer

~ Santa

~ Santa

Tomorrow is coming

But today is here

So let’s show Santa

Our Christmas cheer

Twas the night of the eve

A night of wrapping gifts

We left a glass of milk

For Jolly ol’ St. Nick

There’s some cookies too

He’ll be full and gay

Then he’ll leave the gifts

And be on his way.

Im Grouchy when…ppl dont shut up

Shut up

How come I tell you and you still act up

I tell you the deal but you just look stuck

Use your ears more and shut up your mouth

Look with your eyes so you’ll have less doubt

Control your damn self and I’m not being crude

Cuz the way you come off is so damn rude

Get out of my face or I will curse you out

And I dont want to show you what I’m about

I’ve got to calm down because violence is bad

But pop off next time and you will be gagged.
