The start of a new poem!!
Recently, I read a comic about what I thought would be the best tie in for the Marvel universe to include an Afro American character. The woman is named Misty Knight and for the life of me I cannot understand why she isn’t in more episodes. Her story stems from a risky job, which was being a New York City Bomb Detective; to a grueling life juggling love and super-abilities. Her character is both strong and beautiful, which is why I needed to give her a little coverage. Her story immediately takes a sharp turn when her arm is blown off due to a terrorist bomb and she’s forced to leave her job, and her once normal life. Misty is then left in the care of Charles Xavier where she rooms with Jean Grey and receives a Cybernetic arm courtesy of Iron Man.
Misty fights to the death in battles and is so fierce that she has even beaten Sabertooth! She fought and had a draw with Ironfist, which resulted in them seeing each other in a different light. The two started dating. Their relationship was rocky at best, which led to her on-again-off-again relationship with Powerman aka Luke Cage. Luke Cage is being picked up by Netflix right now and will begin running shortly……so go catch it! Hahaha I couldn’t resist.
I was so moved by this character that I decided to make a little video on her life story. I am placing it on Youtube so that maybe more will learn something and gain strength in themselves. With that being said…..heres a link to the video. Afro Girls Need Love Tooooo Thanx!
Everybody stop! Do u hear that ticking? A bomb explodes, now everybody on the ground. Cry now, mourn now while u still have the tears. Cry for the fallen, the dead, the slaughtered, the distressed, the displaced, the dissonance…the separation of life and body. Feel now while u still have the shivers in ur back. Allow them to run up ur spine n tickle ur vertebrae. Traveling in a still conscious body that’s warm with blood. Have the feeling ooze out of ur ears n drip to ur shoulders down down the rabbit hole.
All my life I had to fight and I’ll be damned if I go in the dirt knowing that I cldve done more to save myself. More to fight, more to live!
Ur New Left Wing president is asking that all persons report to their nearest City Council office and shake em up. I am declaring myself the leader of everyone whos not an extremist propagator with a short set of skills looking to overthrow a nation’s Democratic order with the fate of the world hanging on their every word. I cant have it. Not in my backyard. No presidential candidate is willing to be a Martyr for each n every one of us. Not for Amadou, Eric Garner or Sandra. Not for Trayvon, Akai Gurly or Malala. And not even for the cops that were shot on Myrtle and Marcy.
We protect ourselves right here in little ol Brooklyn. Running down thieves, tracking reckless hit n run drivers, and catching those idiots playing the Knock Out game. We even held the borough down during the blackouts and blizzards that closed us out from the rest of the tri state area.
So whats our future leaders saying….lets build a wall. Nope too Qin Shi Huang. The man who started the Great Wall of China with forced labor. Lets register all Muslims n close down mosques. No, too Hitler. The man who wanted to recognize Jews in order to kill them. Lets defund Planned Parenthood too ridiculous, everybody uses their services to keep unplanned parenthood at a minimum. Ban gays from marrying and abortions from happening no matter the circumstance, damn Rubio too Republican. But Bernie says free college and hes a monster! Damn i must be the Devil.
I need lives behind me, people who live, love n laugh often. People who know what its like to bury a loved one. I need the lives of those who wana live. Come with me.
I wish to seek as much art out of Brooklyn as possible. And there’s so much here that even the Brooklyn Museum opens its doors for free every first Saturday of the month.
When the weekend comes, I’m sure everyone wants to just go to a happening club and party all night. But museums and open mics appeal to me more.
I enjoy being slapped with culture and overwhelmed with international deities. Learning about different histories intrigues me and that is why I’m releasing my poem entitled, A Ride.
When I read it’s like a ride, a roller coaster ride
That’s better with a friend but I’m my own best guide
I like to see the world. The past, present and future
It’s like learning about my mom, and all the moms before her
I can travel across the land, see beauty far away
To a time where Amber Rose earrings were in play
Take me there museum! I wana go there today
Give me something to remember when I’m old and grey
In Brooklyn we are constantly tempted with the lure of fast foods and deli meats.
The occasional taco stand never goes out of style in the Big Apple. But honestly, little dietary adjustments can affect our whole lives.
And on the topic of eating healthy we should concentrate on the small farms in the tri state area that offer GMO, antibiotic and steroid free groceries.
I came across a chicken farm belonging to the Imani Community Garden on Schenectady Ave and Bergen Street in Crown Heights. The chickens greeted me at the gate, seemingly beckoning me to enter.
The Imani Community Garden sells the eggs from their very own chickens and grows herbs seasonally for their members. Here, Lidia is holding a healthy chicken from the garden.
Recently, one Imani Garden representative, Salome Perry, registered the site as a co-op drop off location. So now you can enjoy the fresh herbs and groceries, not sold in stores. This garden can be found using the Farmigo.com website under Bed Heights Farm 2 U. All items from the farms on this website are locally grown to an impeccable healthy standard.
Happy Eating everyone and remember to keep it Fresh!
Art can be conceived in many ways, hell it’s always in our faces!!! And when I read about a possible museum being erected in Brooklyn based around African art, I jumped for joy. More influence is needed from the African culture, I believe, in Brooklyn.
Maybe having an institution like this right in town, can bring our community back to its roots.
Eric Edwards has been a collector for the past 44 years, and feels as though his life mission is to show off all these wonderful pieces of history. Mr Edwards keeps his 1,600 piece collection in his Brooklyn home along with antique clocks and baseball cards.
With such tight space, the vast collection of artifacts need a new home which is why Mr. Edwards is proposing to erect a museum in his hometown. He has started a KickStarter campaign to help fund his endeavors. The goal is to raise $35,000 and debut The Cultural Museum of African Art by the end of the year, in Bed-Stuy. The entire collection is estimated at a whopping $10 Million.
If the museum development goes as planned it will also house space for studio rentals, student programs, and will also offer free DNA testing for people seeking to trace their ancestry.
“Councilmember Robert Cornegy has suggested 375 Stuyvesant Avenue—a Renaissance Revival mansion on the corner of Decatur Street in Bed-Stuy—as a possible home for the future museum”, states the Gothamist. Im in high anticipation!!
